Confessions of an internet marketing junky!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

For anyone who’s been trying to break into the internet marketing scene it won’t be long before you’ll be told that you should try to establish yourself in any niche as long as it’s not internet marketing! Funny that really, as it seems to me that this is the only niche where people are prepared to pay ridiculously inflated prices for poor value. That and weight loss I suppose!

The thing is, it’s all very well writing an eBook or creating a program about your hobbies or something that you are passionate about, but if you like collecting ancient sweet wrappers for example, your hardly going to make an online fortune (forgive me if that’s what floats your boat).

Therein lies a problem. Whatever field in which you choose to establish your online presence, to set up a website, create a list and market effectively takes a lot of time, effort and probably money! So the question is, do you do it as a hobby or as a business?

If there is no intention to make a million dollars then of course you can take time and build it slowly and you never know you might strike a home run without even trying. More than likely however, as most other markets don’t have ‘dreamers’ and ‘hopers’ for prospects the potential income is probably limited…

Unless it is run as a serious business.

But serious business needs serious investment, not only in money but particularly in time. That then opens up a whole new can of worms because to spend the time to succeed in business especially in the beginning takes motivation and dedication, especially when the customers are not desperate!

This is why I particularly love the internet marketing field. Yes there is an incredible amount of competition but as we are all looking for that elusive way to get rich without trying too hard, at least with this market our prospects…which includes you and me…are prepared to spend an awful lot of money in the hope that their purchases will fulfill that elusive goal!

The ‘Gurus’ all tell you to seek out other niche markets but you hardly ever see them actually promoting any other products apart from the IM stuff! Funny isn’t it. Do you think they know where the money really is?

As for me while I still haven’t made my million, I love trying and if I can help others with what I know already then I’ll  be a happy man.
